On Eros or Love, The Only Thing Socrates Knows in Plato’s Symposium

This article is consists of two parts. In the first part, the meaning of Eros or love in Plato’s Symposium is revealed. The views of seven speakers talking in the book about love are interpreted one by one. The second part is composed of two sections. In the first section, different definitions of philosophy eventuated from the relation between love and philosophy established in the Symposium are tried to be shown. The living philosopher in our time who discusses the subject of love like Plato did in the Symposion is Alain Badiou. In the second section, common attitude of love of today’s people is detected on the basis of Badiou’s book In Praise of Love and alternatives to the love fashion are tried to be developed.
